Think of Bali holidays and the visions conjured up are a rainbow of brightly painted temples, tiny alleys twisting up a hillside, with an artistically dressed Balinese dance troupe posing for the obligatory photo opp. And I’m not going to argue that there is nothing more delightful, or sublime, than sitting in a perfectly-shaded restaurant (perhaps one of the famous Warungs that line the beach) with a cold Bintang beer and perfect Padang food — but there are other options. While these “must-dos” will only scratch the surface of what is possible in Indonesia’s stunning #1 island, you can be sure you’ll come home with some great tales to tell back home.
Bali Holidays
Bali is an island that promises something for everyone. Whether you’re a jetsetter or a chilled-out islander, Bali has all the amenities you need. You can spend your days lazing on Lombok’s Gili islands, party like a rockstar at Kuta beach, or drop $400 on a luxury spa treatment. Bali has been a holiday destination for the rich and famous since back in the days when a flight from Sydney to Jakarta was a luxury experience. But lately it’s become affordable to everyone including backpackers like us.
Travelling Bali on A Budget
Bali is one of the most popular holiday destinations among Brits, who travelled there 1.6 million times last year alone. And one of the things they really love about Bali is that you can make your money go further. On a recent trip to Bali, I was impressed by just how affordable it was (more on my Bali holiday below). A spa-treatment for £5? Yes please! A three-course meal for just £20? Sold! And no-one had to do the washing-up! With these tips, you’ll soon be able to enjoy a lovely holiday in Bali at a price you can afford.
Bali beaches and things to do
Bali is an Indonesian island that’s a bit bigger than Singapore but having vastly different terrain. Bali beaches and things to do are tourist-friendly, not to mention brimming with village life. From the west coast where surf reigns supreme to the east coast with its spectacular bare cliff faces, here’s what you can expect from your trip.
Bali is renowned for its beautiful beaches, and the two best known are south Bali’s Kuta Beach and Legian beach. For a more secluded experience, you can head north to the Bukit Peninsula and Nusa Dua, where you’ll find an incredible spa as well as extraordinary sea views from the beachside Four Seasons Resort. The sand on this coast is a little less crowded than many other spots in southern Bali, making it a more relaxing spot for a sunset cocktail than Kuta or Legian.
