How To Get From Koh Samui to Bangkok

Hey, wondering how to travel from Koh Samui? I have everything you need to know in this easy guide 🙂

If you are in Koh Samui, Thailand, and you want to get to Bangkok, here’s what I would do. First, I would make sure I had a visa for Thailand, because otherwise I wouldn’t be able to get there.

If you don’t have a passport, you can’t leave Thailand anyway. If you don’t have any money or credit cards, you should probably stay in Koh Samui for a while.

Next, if you are in Koh Samui because it is sunny and beautiful, it is probably best to stay there.

The rainy season starts soon anyway. If you are in Koh Samui because someone told you that it was cheap or whatever, then the next step is to take the ferry from Koh Samui to Surat Thani on the mainland of Thailand. It takes about an hour and costs 300 baht (about $10). Once on the mainland of Thailand, there are many different ways to get to Bangkok. You could rent a car; it will take four hours and cost 1200 baht (about $40). Or you could buy an airplane ticket; it will take about an hour and cost about $150 (also check out the best way to get from Koh Lipe to Bangkok).

By ferry, bus, and train from Koh Samui to Bangkok

Flight from Phuket to Koh Samui

If you enjoy travelling for the sake of visiting new locations, this choice might be right for you! Traveling by rail in Thailand is an unforgettable experience, and we strongly advise you to do so at least once during your stay.

However, while travelling this way is a fantastic experience and significantly less expensive than flying, it is the slowest way to get from point A to point B, so if you’re in a rush or don’t have much time in Thailand, this is not the best option. The trek takes little about 18 hours in total.

Nonetheless, there are numerous benefits to travelling by ferry, bus, or rail. To begin, you can purchase a combined ticket that covers all of the trip’s segments. It’s far easier to buy your tickets through 12Go than it is to try to buy all of them separately. You’ll travel with Lomprayah on their high-speed catamaran from Na Thon on Koh Samui.

When you get on the mainland, take a bus to Surat Thani Train Station; the transfer is included in the ticket, so you don’t have to worry about it. The train thereafter departs Surat Thani for Bangkok in the early evening. You’ll get to view some countryside before it gets dark and again after dawn if you go overnight, but the good news is that you’ll be on a sleeper train, so you should be able to get some sleep. A 1st class sleeper or a 2nd class sleeper are the two alternatives.

Second class is less private, whereas first class includes a small cabin with a wash sink. The train arrives at Hua Lamphong Station in Bangkok around 6:30 a.m., so you’ll be there early and ready for the day!

Koh Samui to Bangkok by bus and ferry Lomprayah Ferry departing Koh Samui

The most cost-effective way to travel from Koh Samui to Bangkok is to take the bus for the majority of the journey. You’ll still have to take a ferry or catamaran from Koh Samui to the mainland, but after that, you’ll board a bus that will transport you all the way to Bangkok.

Songserm, Raja Ferry, and Lomprayah are among the companies that provide these bundled tickets, which use ordinary ferries, high-speed boats, or catamarans. The whole voyage time depends depend on the ferry you take, which might be anything between 12 and 16 hours.

You can also include a pick-up service from your accommodation on Koh Samui. This increases the convenience while also increasing the expense.

From Koh Samui to Bangkok, take a taxi.

A private taxi from Koh Samui to Bangkok is a last alternative to consider if you’re going in a group or with a large family.

Obviously, the taxi will take you to the ferry, so you will have to cross the water, but this is a really easy method to travel because the taxi will drop you off right outside your Bangkok hotel.

Although expensive, the cost is comparable to one aeroplane seat, so if you utilise a 9-passenger van, it works out to be a very cost-effective solution.

Where To Stay In Bangkok?

Booking.com

Bangkok is one of the most exciting cities in the world. Residents and tourists alike can agree on that. But, as it is for many big cities, Bangkok is also one of the most expensive ones. As you would expect with such a vibrant city, Bangkok has some great hotels to offer at all budgets. But, you’ll want to choose wisely so you don’t waste money paying for something sub-par or that’s too far away from where you want to be. Here are some things to look for when choosing where to stay in Bangkok:

  1. Be sure you know what kind of room you want: with or without a balcony, views of the city, river views, close to the action but still quiet enough to rest at night.
  2. Location location location! Know where you want to be — Chinatown? The river? A bit of both? — and then start looking for hotels there. You’ll quickly realize that certain areas are more expensive than others — but there are bargains if you know where to look.
  3. Be flexible! If your first choice hotel doesn’t have availability during your dates of travel, you may need to look elsewhere for somewhere else more suitable. Or try booking the first night or two before moving into
