Visiting Broken Beach Nusa Penida

Broken Beach is an amazing spot to take in some epic screnery, like Kelingbeach (travel guide) The term broken Beach comes from the broken cliff alowing water to sneak in from the ocean. The beach can be walked around from a high on the cliff surrounding it, allowing you to get a birds eye view of this iconic Nusa Penida destination.

In this post I will share all the top tips for your visit to the broken Beach Nusa Penida, along with pictures and how to get to this amazing hot spot in Nusa Penida.

How to get to broken Beach Nusa Penida

Nusa Penida is bigger than expected after first checking it out on Google Maps, which means when you eventually arrive at the island you have to rent a scooter (a guy called Ahmed works on the beach, he gives sweet deals). Get ready for no traffic lights, narrow roads and more scooters thanks you can possibly image. Although, it’s 100 percent worth it for the sites you’re going to see!

If your coming from mainland Bali see how to get from Bali to Nusa Penida this will get you to the island of Nusa Penida.

Once there as mentioned earlier you will have to get a scooter, which after some bartering you can get for around 60,000 Rupiah a day, which is the same as about $2/3 and with this comes a full tank of gas (crazy cheap).

The road to the broken Beach is a mix of amazing views, the narrow roads and little villages, which are a joy to drive through. However, the road near the end is not for the faint hearted…

The road gets very bumpy with rockery, sand and mud. You need to take extra care when riding up this road and take it very slow, there is also a few small hills, in which if there is two on the scooter the person on the back will have to walk up or run.

When you arrive at the broken Beach Nusa Penida

When you arrive there is a few locals collecting parking money, don’t worry though this is only 5000 Rupiah, which is roughly 50 cent.

Then after parking there are market stalls selling fresh drinks, fruit and other snacks. The bananas there are the best I’ve ever tasted.

There is a free stand to use to take sweet pics with the broken cliff, like the one below. Then, you may make your way along the beautiful cliff top to the broken area, here you will find soft hay like stuff to sunbathe on.

The broken Beach can get very busy throughout the day, this includes the roads and the cliff tops. So, just prepare for lots of crowds, but the views are worth the crowd mingling.

  • You need to hire a scooter to get to here, you can get a taxi ride but it will cost you considerably more and plus the scooter is a lot more fun.
  • TAKE YOUR TIME – The bumpy roads are difficult to drive on, so trying to be a cool fast driver just won’t work.
  • Drink plenty of water up there as it is a sun trap and gets very hot!
  • Take care on the cliff tops, you can go right up to the edge and it is a high drop. Just becareful when getting them pics.
