The Churchill Hotel York Review

The Churchill hotel York review

I recently stayed in the Churchill Hotel York and would like to share my thoughts on this central York hotel. A gift voucher allowed me a one night stay here. This hotel was a random pick to go with gift voucher, it turned out to be a fantastic pick. The hotel is a British classic, themed on the great Winston Churchill.

The Churchill hotel is in a great location to York’s centre, situated close to the outside of the York’s historic walls. It took us around 6 minutes to walk from the hotel to the famous Shambles street, which is the centre of York more or less (make sure to check out the York City Centre Hotels).

We arrived at this view, as you can see the architect is an old British castle-like building. So, on-site the hotel looked great. There Churchill parking available at the hotel. However, we got here early and the car park was fairly quiet and by 3 pm the car park was full. So, I would say try to grab a spot as early as you can.

The hotel have done a super job in keeping that classic British theme from the outside exterior, through to the inside interior. The floor  reminds you of the vintage flooring from the good old days. There is an old piano situated under the stairs, one you like you would expect to see if you walked into this type of establishment 70 years earlier. The lighting looks expensive, old-fashioned and quirky, but a great touch to the hotel. The colours in the Churchill hotel added to the old vintage look and feel.

Overall a great job done so far by the Churchill team in making this place feel like a classical 1900’s hotel.

The Churchill Hotel York bedrooms

The bedrooms still continue the old vintage touch, but, no way do they feel old-fashioned. The rooms are brilliant and as the image shows, they have some really great decor. Its modern mixed very well with the old. The Churchill hotel bedrooms have old slide windows, which again was a nice touch. The bathrooms are not so vintage, in fact they are a lot more modernised, but, a good modern and didn’t take too much away from the vintage feel.

Furthermore, the bathrooms come with the usual shower gels, shampoo and soap The Churchill bedrooms come with free coffee, tea and chocolate (2 kitkats). Also, essentials like ironing board and iron.

Overall great styled bedroom, sweet bathrooms and comfy beds.

Side note, don’t forget to check out York places to visit.

After we had been into the centre of York for a mega day, we came back to get ready for the evening and for the 3 course meal on offer by the Churchill hotel. When we arrived in the restaurant area, we could still sense that classical early 1900’s touch, from the lights, the furniture, the waitress’s dresses and the decor. Great work again from the team. So, the food! The menu doesn’t have lots to choose from. However, the meals that are on there looked very tasty and the food I picked didn’t disappoint. You can find the Churchill food menu below;

I had the salmon meal and it was very tasty! One things to be wary of is the price of drink. I paid £12 for the vodka and limes, a little on the expensive side!

The next day breakfast was included. You can choose from cereals, healthy yogurt, fruits and the British classic a full English. We had the yogurt and full English, the food was great.

Overall

This is a very cool, classical and unique hotel. It is in a prime location to easily walk in minutes to the centre of York. I would definitely recommend this hotel to family, friends and anyone else visiting York looking for a great hotel.

The Churchill Hotel Top Tips

  • Get to the car park early as the spaces quickly fill up
  • Book through websites such as Booking.com these will be cheaper than the hotel prices and you can grab one of these great rooms for around £66
  • Take your own alcohol. If you wanting to have a few drinks, the hotel bar could cost you a small fortune. We took a bottle of wine for the room and they was happy to give us ice and a bucket!
