Nusa Lembongan Guide For 2024

Guide To Nusa Lemgongan Island, Indonesia

Nusa Lembongan is a small island near Bali and is known as the hidden gem of Bali. It’s like the younger cousin of Bali who is full of life and lots of untapped potential.  It’s not yet well known amongst international travelers, but has seen more westerners than the other islands in Nusa Penida. The island doesn’t quite have it’s own town or city, but there are some expansions happening to accommodate more tourist, including new restaurants, bars, and hotels. One of the biggest draws I’ve found to Nusa Lembongan was it’s beaches. Each beach on the island has different qualities that makes each one unique which I’ll highlight in this post because a picture says,

Nusa Lembongan island is a great destination for those who love diving and snorkelling. It’s a tropical paradise with caves, lakes, mountains and many kilometers of white sand beaches. Nusa Lembongan isn’t as extravagant as it’s neighbor, Nusa Ceningan Island but it also has something called, “Chill zone” (exactly what you need after awesome scuba experiences).

On a recent trip to Nusa Lembongan I had a great time exploring the island. It’s such a magical place, fully of unique beaches and beautiful landscapes. There is plenty to do on the island and I will write more about my trip on this blog. Hopefully I can help you guys on your next visit to Nusa Lembongan! Curious about what to do? Check out my list below 🙂

your complete guide to Nusa Lembongan

Nusa Lembongan is one of the smaller islands in the three Nusa Penida islands that makes up the Southern Peninsula Region of Bali. Its famous natural attractions, such as Mushroom Rock and Tanjung Kelayang, means it attracts a huge amount of tourists each year, so if you have been planning your trip to Bali, I’m sure you will have ready about this island before you arrived. It’s a popular island choice with many resorts to choose from to stay, many would say there is no need for an guidebook to Nusa Lembongan. But after having visiting, I thought it was worth creating my own recommendations.

The island is most famous for pristine beaches of course and a huge variety of other activities including one of Indonesia’s top diving spots, as well as the temple and memorial sites that are found around the island. Here’s your definitive guide to Nusa Lembongan, from history to beaches to diving, temples and more.

Nusa Penida offers a colorful contrast to the rest of the islands in the area. Instead of the rugged granite hills typical of Nusa Lembongan, Nusa Penida has calmer shores with more tropical forest and meadows, and its volcano is no longer active. The two islands are connected by a picturesque 2.5-km bridge, so unless you’re staying on Nusa Penida this is the only way to go from one island to another. Once in Nusa Penida town you can find the main attractions and plenty of great places to eat. Nusa Penida is the least developed island of Nusa Lembongan and Nusa Ceningan. It is sometimes simply referred to as “the third island” by overlanders and even some divers.

Here’s the thing that’s so awesome about this island!

For years, Nusa Lembongan has been the destination favourite among generations of backpackers from around the globe. But even after many visits to this island paradise, I’m still discovering new things that make this a magical – safe and seductive – tropical getaway.

where to stay Nusa Lembongan?

Wondering where to stay Nusa Lembongan? Whether you’re a solo traveller or travelling with your loved one, honeymooning or taking the kids along for the ride, I can guarantee that you’ll find a place to stay here. There are plenty of gorgeous beach huts and bungalows to choose from in Nusa Lembongan with the average price (based on 2 sharing) being 250,000-700,000 IDR a night. However, the main draw to staying in Nusa Lembongan is without a doubt, the scenery. You’ll be treated to some of the most beautiful sunrises and sunsets you’ll ever see and from your beach hut you can gaze out across the ocean, taking in the views of neighbouring islands like Nusa Penida and Nusa Ceningan too!

Here is some of the best hotels on Nusa Lembongan;

  1. The Tarci Bungalows are perfect for backpackers looking for a cheap place to stay for the night on Nusa Lembongan. The staff here are amazing and will treat you very well, it’s also in a perfect location as well! There will be clean rooms for you and hot running water, which is always epic after a day exploring Nusa Lembongan and a room here will cost you under ($20). Book Room
  2. The Pacific Inn on Nusa Lembongan is another cheap place to stay for backpackers on the island (we love a good bargain). If you want a room with an amazing view then this is the place to stay. The Pacific Inn is one of the best beach hotels on Nusa Penida and the views are absolutely amazing. The breakfast is nothing to scream about, it’s just the basic eggs and juice, but this is good enough for us! If you’re looking for a cheap room, you will be glad to know a room here is under ($20) a night. Book Room
  3. Mahagiri Resort Nusa Lembongan is one of the sweetest places to stay on Nusa Lembongan and the resort is in probably the best location on Nusa Lembongan. Sitauted on a stunning white beach, you can watch the sunrise and sunset here. Also, guests can dive straight in to the water activites available in the sea here. Overall, making this probably the ultimate accommodation on Nusa Lembongan. Book Room

Best places to eat nusa lembongan?

nusa lembongan itinerary

There are a number of restaurants on Nusa Lembongan and they range in price, taste and the scenes that you can enjoy while eating there. A favourite with most people is the food court at the ‘’Lembongan Sunrise Resort’’ and there are other places to eat also within walking distance from this resort so most people choose to stay here. This is a multi-story building with an upstairs/downstairs layout, however, even if you do have a choice of where to eat each night, I would still recommend eating at the top floor as this offers you one of the best views on the island. The food is clean, fresh and excellent value – some of the Western restaurants serving much better food!

Best things to do?

One of the best places to visit in Bali is Nusa Lembongan and, with it being less-developed than the other popular area of Bali, Kuta, it still retains the charms of old Bali. Explore this beautiful island with its white sand beaches and lots of activities like scuba diving and snorkelling! But let’s check out the best things to do Nusa Lembongan.

Check out a Nusa Lembongan Diving Tour

Nusa Lembongan, famous for being the best scuba diving destination in Bali, now has a Nusa Lembongan diving tour. If you are looking to combine scuba diving with your holiday on this amazing island, then the Nusa Lembongan diving tour is just for you!  These tours are suitable for both beginner and experienced divers.

Diving is one of the water activities that you can really do in Nusa Lembongan. The area has become increasingly known as a diving and snorkeling site because of several coral reefs and sites to explore nearby. You will also find other activities such as sunbathing, fishing, and even sailing. It’s an ideal destination for two or three weeks holiday when you combine everything available at your disposal, be it underwater world or other tourist attractions on the island.

Visit Devil’s Tear

As in Bali, the coast of Nusa Lembongan has spectacular cliffs and surf areas. For its beauty stands out especially Devils Tear and its incredible breakwater.

The cliffs of the Nusa Islands give you the chance to take some of the best photography you will take in the whole of Southeast Asia, the views are incredible.

Surfing

There are three surf spots on Lembongan, in the days of big swell there are waves of good sizes, but almost all are many people on the lineup. There are several surf schools on Lembongan that offer out rental boards.

Check out Nusa Ceningan

United by a small suspension bridge to Nusa Lembongan, Nusa Ceningan is a small island that is ideal for a one-way trip.

This is one of the awesome 3 Nusa islands that you should check out! If you’re wondering which island is the best, I would have to go with Nusa Penida, although Nusa Lembongan is a top island to visit in Bali.

Where To Next?

You need to check out Nusa Penida!

Just like on Bali, nusa penida is characterized by its white-sand beaches and the crystal clear waters that go with it. Among those are Bungalowan Beach, Batu Karang Beach, Kumuh Beach.OR
